Mikaela Castledine #57 Morphology

I'm studying
the morphology of the garden

The tortured willow
wraps around its tiny fingers
cracks each knuckle

Marri all looselimbed
double jointed flings itself
into wild gestures
dislocated branches hang
fractures and breaks
lie across the grass

The flame tree
self harms
sharps up and down

We get all orthopaedic
on the vegetables
splints and bracing
to reduce scoliosis
in the tomatoes

The lemon tree
eleven years languishing in the ground
in a sudden spurt of hormones
puts on a metre
swells into fruit
doesn't recognise itself
