Melinda Smith #1 The Artist as April Fool

Inspiration for poem #1 - coloured bunting at National Folk Festival, Canberra, March 2016

#1 The Artist as April Fool

a long climb
to my big top
up a thin rainbow vine

up a strung twist of stocking-ladder
flapped and fraying
to unravelled carnival

  1. Am chuffed. Recognised that bunting, Melinda. Or maybe it's the way it pulls against the sky in these parts. Or maybe I am imagining things. Classic Folkey image. A beauty. Poignant poem.

    1. Thanks!!! I love the bunting at the Folkey and it was looking particularly frisky on Easter Sunday afternoon as the wind came up. Glad you liked the poem. Also great to have evidence that another human has read it!
