Mikaela Castledine #122 If You Narrow Your Eyes

The low bank of cloud to the west
is a fools landscape
double dark against the dark of the sea
halfway distant
ships turn on the house lights
like little candles in little windows
beckoning you on to visit
nonexistent villages in imaginary vales
it's a convincing illusion
if you narrow your eyes

Above the rampart
of a mountainous effigy
the sky is lemony pale
with temporary stars
